Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) asked DynaMundo to assist on their Complexity in Health project. DynaMundo was asked to develop a conceptual systems map through participatory model-building sessions with public health experts. DynaMundo developed a system dynamics simulation model explaining how the disease process of type-2 diabetes develops over time, and how the surrounding health system and societal factors have an impact on that process.

Through our participatory approach, stakeholders reached a shared understanding and discovered systems thinking and a common language for talking about the diabetes prevention problem. Several important and new interrelations were uncovered between different societal factors and the wider public health system, including different kinds of institutions.
